ABOUT US
Sugar cane was started in 2017 when owner and chef Derek Martin and his Mother Elsa Berenguer decided it was time for the beaches community to have a destination for true authentic Cuban cuisine. His efforts and wonderful food touched the hearts and taste buds of many in the local community. Sugar Cane restaurant was awarded “Best Cuban restaurant in Jacksonville” in 2019 and most recently, “Best ethnic restaurant at the beaches” in 2020 by Folio Weekly magazine. Now more than ever, Derek and Elsa want to make sure Jacksonville has a chance to taste and experience true Cuban cooking handed down by generations in the family and have decided to take Sugar Cane on the road creating a mobile kitchen that is a cut above the rest.
